Kim Currant of K.I.M. Keep it Movin’, was a Movement Matters sponsor for our recent Dine & Discover Wellness Forum. Her years spent working as an RN and “fixing” people after they were sick or injured influenced a major life pivot to her current work of helping women in their 40’s as they navigate perimenopause.
🌟 What inspired you to start your business in the wellness industry, and how does your approach stand out from others in this space?
I had been a registered nurse for 18 years and went back to get my bachelors in nursing with the intention of going on to get my masters. The last course of my bachelors program had me spend 90 hours out in the community assessing what is available for people to live a healthy lifestyle…as I was completing my last assignments on how to improve community availability. I realized that I spent the last 18 years of my life fixing people in hospitals and through this project, I saw an opportunity to begin helping people PREVENT what I had spent 18 years fixing as a nurse. It was a huge light bulb moment!
Immediately after that course I became certified as a personal trainer and continued my love for all things health-related by becoming a certified nutrition consultant, a certified weight loss specialist, and a certified level 2 master health coach. Since then, I am continually developing my programs to try and meet people where they are. I also now do monthly free classes to help educate women on what their body needs to lose weight permanently. I provide a lot of information on why we do what we do so it makes sense to my clients and I also work with each persons individual needs.
My approach is heavy in mindset work, because when your mindset is set up for success, the actual process of losing weight and becoming healthier is actually easy! I work with each client to make the process as easy as possible for them. I have programs as low as $49 for accountability and a sense of community (power in numbers!), 1:1 health coaching and personal training for those who excel in a 1:1 environment, and then a higher ticket womens group health coaching program with weekly calls in addition to the 1:1 support inside the app.
🌟 What trends or changes in consumer behavior are you seeing in wellness, and how is your business adapting to meet these evolving needs?
I dare to say the trends are coming back to a more holistic and sustainable approach which is AMAZING!! K.I.M. Keep It Movin’ is ever-adapting, but this is the approach I started my business with (the nurse in me wants to treat the root cause, not provide a patch for a quick fix).
I think being a nurse helped me develop a comprehensive approach that integrates nutrition, fitness, stress management, and mindset work (oh, and sleep too!) for a balanced approach to health. I also take into consideration the fast pace of life now and how to make this lifestyle switch as easy as possible for my clients.
🌟 How do you measure success in helping your clients achieve their wellness goals, and can you share any success stories that highlight your impact?
Success is measured in many ways. One of those is the obvious metrics of weight loss and a healthier lifestyle (so labs in normal range, the scale going down, blood pressure in normal range, getting off medicines).
My favorite is the life wins or nsv (non scale victories): being able to walk from your car to your Bengals seats in the stadium with no pain or shortness of breath, ditching the all or nothing mindset ;-), going from never drinking water to only drinking water, seeing yourself in family pictures and asking your photographer if they were photoshopped because you cant believe it is you!
A success story for me is having a client tell me that I am like an apple tree whose seed is spreading because the actions we took together as client and trainer have bled out to family in California and other family members here who are inspired by my clients weight loss.
Below are some favorite success stories:
I had a client (Liz) come to me to get stronger to be able to take care of disabled son, weight loss was not super important to her but was a nice bonus. She ended up getting back into her fav jeans COMFORTABLY, finding ab muscles, not recognizing her own arms in family pictures, AND visibly noting her quads popping! Oh, and she is able to help her son with ease now!!

I had a client (Wendy) come to me needing to lose weight because her knee pain was so bad, she had to ascend and descend stairs backwards due to pain and keeping up with her kids at Kings Island was taxing, so this was definitely hindering her life.
After working on nutrition and strength training, she ended up losing 70 pounds and legit sauntered down the stairs FORWARDS because her knee pain was gone! She also signed up for sand volleyball, when she thought her days of rec sports were LONG over, so she got SO MUCH quality of life back from this journey!

I have a husband and wife couple (Jim and Christine) who came to me to help them age gracefully (and lose weight).
Some nvs’s (non scale victories) include being able to put their shoes on easier due to increased flexibility, no more achilles heel pain, no more all or nothing mindset (allowing him to ebb and flow when getting a new job that is interfering with his normal health routine)….and a total weight loss of 70 lbs between them….and it is staying off. They are also able to get up and down off the floor with ease now (a huge life skill as we age).
